I was thinking about some of the games i had the most fun I ever had played. So this is the first of another semi-annual series of games, you know what, forget that, this is the beginning of a semi-annual series of things that are most memorable to me.
One of those things are a little game they call: Super Smash Bros

The original on the n64. Sure these days, the gameplay is slow, but its still playable. Back when it came out in 1999, it was MINDBLOWING! It ran on an engine that no other fighting game ever used before. When i was told the concept of beating the living daylights of Mario with Link was awesome. I must have played that game non-stop for a whole bunch of time when it came out, and kept playing it before Melee came out, like how people are playing Melee before Brawl comes out later this year. The single player was good for what it is, it isnt of course the strong point, but it had some gameplay value to it, but the multiplayer is where it is. If it wasnt for this, we wouldnt have seen Melee or Brawl. It wasnt perfect by any measure, but it was fun as hell. SSB filled the void left when n64 owners finished playing Super Mario 64, finished zelda ocarina of time, and wanted to take a break from the awesome multiplayer of Goldeneye 64, Super Smash Bros has some of my best memories of video games, and as good as future editions of the series may become, they may not reach the level of groundbreaking and seminal like Super Smash Bros on the Nintendo 64.
(If you got a problem with this issue or any future editions of “Thinking Memories” then email me on the website, or see me on the beach!)
